When the decision was made to construct the Humanities Building on its current site, many in the Scripps community protested the proposed destruction of the gardens, especially Olive Grove. In Maystudents staged a protest and “took to the trees” refusing to allow the trees to be cut down.
Mar 08, Scripps began the construction of a new Humanities Building in Maywhich would replace an area known as Olive Grove, a space containing over 60 olive trees. Students opposed to the cutting down of these trees protested the construction of the new building by occupying each of the trees.

The petition has also been signed by several Scripps professors, according to the website, including German professor Marc Katz, politics professor Thomas Kim and Humanities Institute director Myriam bushcutting.barg: olive tree.
Last week, students from across the 5Cs wielding Drop Sodexo signs streamed into Balch Hall as part of a mass protest against the corporation’s dining contract presentation to the community. Sodexo was the third and final dining services vendor to make their pitch to Scripps students, faculty and staff before the college’s contract with Missing: olive tree.
